After much planning and anticipation, the day has finally arrived! Eleven youth and six adults from our partner church in Barót, Transylvania (Romania) are en route to Summit. They will be greeted at JFK this evening by UCS members with banners and funny hats, hugs and joyful tears.
Over the next two weeks, UCS will be hosting our guests as they explore New Jersey and New York City. On Sunday, August 4th at our 10 am service, members and friends will get a chance to welcome, meet and hear from our partners. After the service, there is a reception hosted by our Membership and Partner Church Committees.
Over the next two weeks, our partners have a busy schedule! Take a look at the list of activities (below). Our congregation’s partnership with The Unitarian Church in Barót, began in 1992 through the leadership of UCS member, Ruth Vogler. Today, the national Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council (UUPCC) has encouraged and supported almost 200 congregational partnerships between American and Canadian Unitarian Universalists and Unitarians and Unitarian Universalists around the world.
Through our congregation’s Partner Church Committee under the leadership of Jean Crichton, UCS has visited Barót regularly for the last ten years, including a choir tour. In 2012, we celebrated twenty years of partnership. To celebrate, a multi-generational delegation from UCS spent ten days last summer in Barót, forging lifelong friendships with our partners. In September 2012, the minister from Barót, Rev Alpar Kiss, visited UCS with his Board President.
We are very grateful to the entire congregation, to our leaders and hosts, for their amazing and humbling support of this trip. You have made dreams come true!
