All Souls Day in Transylvania is a reunion holiday similar to our Thanksgiving, where people return to their ancestral villages from the cities where they may have moved for jobs. On the trip, we will accompany Unitarian families to the cemeteries, where they light candles by the graves and then return to town for dinners with family and friends.
As currently envisioned, UCS travelers would leave Newark on Thursday, October 29, and arrive in Bucharest, Romania, the next afternoon. Barót members would pick us up in Bucharest and drive us the three hours to their small town where we will go to the homes of host families.
The tentative schedule will include at least two two dinners with host families at the local Party Pub restaurant:
Sat., Oct. 31 Halloween in Barót – discover what it’s like to spend Halloween in Transylvania
Nov. 3-4-5 Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely) with the nearby salt mine at Parajd (Praid)
– all interesting
Friday, Nov. 6
The trip will probably last about 12 days, from late October into early November, and will be limited to 12 persons. Those interested can help design the trip to suit their schedules. Details are being planned by Árpi Egyed and others in Barót who arranged the wonderful exchange for our youth and adults last summer.
