Our All Souls Trip to our partner Unitarian congregation in Barót, Transylvania (Romania) is right around the corner. This trip is one we’ve always dreamed of doing! But you must register by August 15th.
As part of the 12-day pilgrimage, Thursday, October 29 to Tuesday, November 10, travelers will participate in All Souls Day traditions with Unitarian families. Yes, that’s right. You’ll be in Transylvania on Halloween. What a story you’ll have!
Led by our minister, Rev. Emilie Boggis, this trip will be both a journey of the body and the spirit. As we witness the traditions of All Souls Day, witnessing the lighting of candles to our ancestors, we’ll consider our own life legacies.
“Members often ask me, ‘Why Transylvania?’” says Rev. Emilie. “And my experience has been that our members come away from these pilgrimages profoundly transformed by the time and deeply connected to one another.”
We will also visit the newly restored medieval city of Sibiu and attend a celebration of Unitarian founder Francis David at Deva Citadel. The trip will include home stays with members and friends of the Unitarian Church in Barót, plus three nights in hotels, one in the city of Sibiu, one in Deva and one near the Bucharest airport the night before departure.
The estimated cost for the trip, $850, includes all meals, overnights and transportation, except for airfare. Details of the schedule can, to some extent, be tailored to the interests of participants.
