Social outreach activities are woven into the fabric of Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit. To promote this effort, the Social Justice Team (SJT) meets regularly to identify and offer financial support for many worthy non-profit and disaster relief organizations that help to combat hunger, homelessness, improve education and serve the greater good. These charitable contributions are drawn from the committee’s operating budget and from SJT-designated offertory plates collected 12 Sundays each year.
A summary of the 2016-17 SJT-sponsored charitable funding is below, to illustrate the depth of our congregation’s unprecedented generosity, and highlight the large list of beneficiaries that Beacon has been able to help during this past fiscal year. 100% of our financial support goes directly to non-profit organizations that combat hunger and homelessness, provide relief aid to people stricken by disease and natural disasters. As in past years, we’ve also provided humanitarian aid to war-ravaged parts of the world and continue to uphold the basic rights and dignity of all human beings.
In addition, SAC worked with the Board of Trustees to ensure that our congregation will again fully meet the “champion level” $25 per member commitment to the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of New Jersey for the 2016-17 fiscal year.
Here is a list of all the outreach activities we provided funding to during this fiscal year. All of this outreach was made possible due to our congregation’s continued generous support.
