Planning Begins for Barót to Summit Trip!!
This summer, we at Beacon will be hosting a group of 13 adults and 6 youth from the Unitarian Church in Barót, Transylvania (Romania), our Partner Church.
The 10-day visit will begin on Sunday, August 11, and continue through Wednesday, August 21. Beacon youth and adults are urged to join in on the activities and get to know our Transylvanian friends.
Barót’s new minister Rev. Imola Molnár will be one of the visitors along with some folks who traveled to New Jersey on trips in 2013 and 2016: Melinda Fazakas, Andrea Bardocz, Ágnes Tatár and the Csiki family, Csongor, Mónika and Magor.
Partner Church chairman Kate Smith-Cooper and other members of the Partner Church group have begun planning for the visit and are looking for volunteers for the following areas:
>Housing with home-stay hosts
>Itinerary – Michele Blanchard, Jennie DeMizio, Stella DeMizio and others have already begun planning the schedule of activities, which could include an overnight trip to Murray Grove Retreat Center, a day at the beach, daytrips to New York City and a rock concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center, among other highlights.
>Transportation –Volunteer drivers are needed to transport visitors and Beacon members to and from various events.
>Fund Raising – Barót folks are paying their own airfare with some help from Partner Church funds. Beacon has always paid all the cost of housing, food and activities while the visitors are here. We estimate we will need up to $1,000 per visitor to provide the guests with a schedule as lively as the programs they arrange for us.
Would YOU like underwrite all or part of the cost for one visitor? Housing for an individual guest or a couple? A barbecue or another meal for the group at Beacon or at your home? Help with transportation?
Our first fundraiser will be selling freshly popped gourmet popcorn (by Rev. Robin Tanner), drinks and other refreshments at the Musical Theater at Beacon shows, Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4. Enjoy the show ($25/ticket) and buy some popcorn, brownies and other treats to show our Barót visitors a great time!!
If you want to help, contact Kate Smith-Cooper at firstname.lastname@example.org or other organizers.
Checks can be made out to Beacon UU with “Barot trip” on the memo line.
