Beacon’s Chaplain Ministry ~ Extending Spiritual Care

If you’d like to request a chaplain, email careteam@summitbeacon.org with Chaplain Request in the subject line. It is confidential.

Life is full. We need one another as we move through the peaks and valleys of caregiving, transitions, illness, grief, disability, relationships, unemployment and isolation. At Beacon we uphold the power of communities who walk with us through the peaks and valleys of life.

Beacon Chaplains are trained volunteers in active listening who work with our minister to extend the spiritual care of our community.

Our ministry affirms that everyone needs care at different points in their life and everyone provides care to others.

We extend spiritual care, defined as intentional compassion through presence and listening, into our community.

But Beacon chaplains also know that we aren’t alone in doing so. What we also affirm is that all of us at Beacon can grow our abilities to both offer and receive presence, listening and support.

What do Chaplains do?

  • Chaplains lead our Sunday candle lighting, where people of all ages light a candle to honor and name their joys or sorrows.

  • Some grow their skills in creating and leading meditation and prayer.

  • Chaplains also meet one-on-one regularly with Beacon friends experiencing trying times. All conversations are confidential and are not discussed among chaplains.

  • Chaplains do NOT offer meals, rides or advice.

Ministerial Support: Pastoral counseling is more akin to spiritual direction or deep listening to the challenge at hand and is intended for short-term support. If you need long-term counseling, we recommend the services of a professional therapist. If you wish to have an opportunity to be listened to, to make better sense of a difficult situation or to pray with a religious leader, contact our ministers for an appointment.
