Mary Early-Zald
My name is Mary Early-Zald and my pronouns are she/her.
I often tell people that I have lived all over the US; this means that I consider myself a nomad…I have moved a lot! As our hymn, Blue Boat Home’s lyrics say, “Never harbor nor port have I known” at least for very long. So, home means everything to me.
As a long time UU, I sought out others when I was moving to New Jersey almost two years ago. Leaving my congregation of 20 years in Nashville has been very hard. During the 2020 lockdown, I was alone, waiting for my husband to complete our move here. Having met the wonderful Robin and Emilie, I visited Beacon for online worship, and felt immediately welcomed. Beacon’s strong, diverse leadership and genuinely warm response to me felt just…right. And your clear, principled commitment to justice shone bright. Already, this community has repeatedly proved a beacon, inspiring and comforting this soul, as I make my way by your light. Beacon is home.
