Ted & Judy Brewer

Good morning, I’m Judy Brewer       and I’m Ted Brewer

As a family of 4, with our daughters, Anne and Pamela, we have been members of this congregation for 32 years, but Ted’s history here goes back long before we met.

About 70 years ago my dear parents, Ted and Marjorie, joined the Unitarian Church in Summit.  Of the precious gifts they bestowed on their offspring, one of the most wonderful was raising us in the Unitarian Universalist faith.

Although I was raised in a different faith tradition, I’m proud to say that our daughters, always happy to attend RE classes and Youth Group, I might add, qualify as Third generation UUs.

This congregation has offered us abundant opportunities for engagement in varied activities, including those seeking a more just and equitable society.  Having both served on the board in times now long past, we deeply appreciate the dedicated board leaders who are guiding us in this extraordinarily challenging period.

We feel blessed to have enjoyed the outstanding music program here. And I am honored to have been asked to play piano for many services, choir rehearsals, parties, holiday events and theatrical productions over the years.

And I’ve had the joy of singing in the choir for over a decade and being involved in our cherished Afternoon Music concert series.  I should add, looking back to the 1950s, our congregation has always supported and loved great music.

As a result of plentiful social opportunities, as well as committee work, we have formed many deep and lasting friendships.  Over a year ago, when we were encouraged by a good friend to join a Community Group, a small group ministry, I was ready to sign on....

But trying to garner more time for personal pursuits as my age advances, I hesitated—before agreeing.  Happily—and perhaps predictably—being in our close little group has been more rewarding and spiritually nourishing than any of my other quirky personal endeavors.

We are in awe of our remarkable staff.  They have invited us to accept challenges beyond our comfort zones, and we have grown because we said “Yes.”  We are more than grateful for how they have kept moving forward with love and purpose during this unprecedented time.

We hope you share our sense of commitment to this community and are prepared to give, to the best of your ability, to its essential work.  Instructions for making a donation will be provided on the screen.

We look forward to the next time we can be together
