Beloved Beacon:
What a week it’s been: with the devastating weather in Texas, passing the half a million mark of deaths from COVID-19, and the start of Lent, I (Tuli) have been in touch with friends and family as to what they have been risking this week in the midst of these troubled times. Some have embarked on journeys of forgiveness while others have set aside their own struggles in the midst of the loss of power and assembled meals for others on stoves and ovens lit with matches.
I am, once again, in awe of human resilience and our ability to come together in times like these to hold each other up and to hold on. Even in weeks when it feels like too much, here we are, 50 weeks since we first began physically distancing, trying to be beacons to one another and outward to the world.
This week I made a donation to an organization mobilizing to get meals to kids in Texas. Even as I did so, we received notes of gratitude from families who were given gift cards to local restaurants through our Neighborhood Beacon efforts; and each day, EACH day a team of volunteers supports Staci D’Olier Lees with our Summit Warm Hearts programs. As Unitarian Universalists, our faith in our shared humanity undergirds our deeds.
May we hold on to one another, finding the strength to continue living out our values.
