Memorial to Black Lives Lost to Police Shootings

Below are short biographies for just some of the Black people in the United States who have been killed by police in 2020. Ahmaud Arbery, also listed below, was murdered by a former police officer in a vigilante attack.

The Washington Post maintains a comprehensive police shootings database for 2015-2020. As of July 1, 1017 people have been shot and killed by police in 2020.

Although half of the people shot and killed by police are white, Black Americans are shot at a disproportionate rate. They account for less than 13 percent of the U.S. population, but are killed by police at more than twice the rate of white Americans. Hispanic Americans are also killed by police at a disproportionate rate.

She died, during a “no-knock” raid by plainclothes officers at the wrong address. Breonna was 26. The officers were not wearing body cameras.
