Beacon Hope and Equity Center Official Launch: September 24
Two years ago, Beacon congregation began the process of starting a supporting organization to deepen our work for equity and justice. Beacon Hope and Equity Center's mission is to decolonize wealth. Over the last two years, we've been able to donate thousands of dollars in micro-grants to create immediate relief to individuals struggling with food and housing insecurity. We've also forgiven over $2 million dollars of medical debt across New Jersey and created a $25,000 matching grant for the Summit Interfaith Council's relief fund for undocumented individuals and their families. And we are just getting started! We finally received our 501(c)(3) status and now can officially launch!
Beacon Hope and Equity Center celebrated its official launch on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in Summit, New Jersey. The event included a brief program honoring community organizers: Antonne Henshaw of Transformative Justice Initiative, Ana Paola Pasmiño of Unidad Latina en Acción New Jersey, and Jenifer Pelaez of New Labor. Rev. Dr. Robin Tanner, Executive Director of Beacon Hope and Equity Center, also spoke. Attendees, including board members of Beacon Hope and Equity Center and members of the local community, enjoyed live music and light fare.
